Boulder, Colorado is a charming and vibrant city of about 100,000 people located 25 miles northwest of the Denver. It is situated at the base of the Rocky Mountains in what is known as the "Front Range" of Colorado. Boulder is home to the University of Colorado, and with students making up nearly a quarter of the city's population, exhibits a fun and youthful feel. It has lots of good restaurants, shops, art galleries and bars. There is also a lot to do in the surrounding area. Hiking and mountain biking are popular in the surrounding foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Several world class ski resorts are within a few hours drive. Popular Rocky Mountain National Park is just a short drive away also. Boulder is less than an hour's drive northwest of Denver, and is easily accessible from several routes along I-25.
Industries include aerospace and biological research and the manufacture of machinery; electric, electronic, and computer equipment; and medical supplies. Boulder is home to the National Center for Atmospheric Research and other government and private research operations and is known as a mountain sports and "New Age" mecca.Boulder balances a healthful environment with healthy economic and technological development. In addition to many small, entrepreneurial businesses, major employers include companies and federal research laboratories such as IBM, Ball Aerospace, the National Institute for Standards and Technology and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Adding to Boulder's progressive spirit is the University of Colorado, the academic and cultural centerpiece of the community. CU has played a leading role in the city's rich historical past and today continues to enhance the atmosphere of higher learning, imagination and inspiration that exists here. Boulder Valley residents experience the four seasons. The year-round sun makes Boulder a haven for skiers, climbers, hikers, joggers, and lovers of meadows and panoramic views. The city's unique greenbelt system serves as both a buffer to preserve its picturesque setting and as an extensive park system.
